Privacy policy
This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why, and what we do with it. It follows the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
Who we are
This website belongs to Powell's Property Maintenance, a property maintenance business in Selwyn District and Christchurch, owned by Michael Powell. In this policy, “we” and “us” means Powell's Property Maintenance. Mike runs the business as a sole trader, so he is the person responsible for your information.
What we collect
When you use the quote form, we collect:
- your name and phone number
- your email address, if you give it
- your suburb or town
- the type of job and your message
- any photos you choose to attach
If you call, text or email Mike instead, we collect whatever you choose to send.
We don’t ask for more than we need to reply to you, arrange a visit and quote for your job.
Why we collect it
We use your information to reply to you, arrange a time to see the job, give you a quote and do the work. We don’t sell it, and we don’t use it for marketing without asking.
How the quote form works
When you send the form:
- Photos are usually shrunk in your browser before sending, which keeps uploads quick and removes location data. If your browser can’t process a photo (for example some iPhone HEIC photos), it’s sent as is and may still include where it was taken.
- Cloudflare Turnstile runs a check to stop spam. To do this, Cloudflare processes technical information about your browser and device.
- Your details and photos are sent straight to Mike as an email. The email is delivered by Resend, an email service based in the United States, to Mike’s email inbox, which is provided by Google (Gmail).
The website itself doesn’t store your form details or photos. Once the email is sent, nothing is kept on the website. Resend keeps a copy of sent emails for a limited time as part of delivering them.
Hosting and security
This website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any website host, Cloudflare processes basic technical information, such as your IP address, to deliver pages to you and protect the site from attacks. Our own website code doesn’t record your IP address.
Cookies
We don’t set any cookies ourselves.
Where your information goes
Cloudflare, Resend and Google may store or process information outside New Zealand, including in the United States. We only share what’s needed to get your request to Mike and to run this website.
How long we keep it
Mike keeps quote requests in his email for as long as he needs them to quote, do the job and keep his business records.
Mike may keep photos of the work itself to show examples of his jobs, on this website or his business pages. He doesn’t use photos that show people or make it obvious where a property is.
Keeping it safe
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, including sending the form over a secure (HTTPS) connection.
Seeing and correcting your information
You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it's wrong (information privacy principles 6 and 7). Get in touch using the details below. We'll respond as soon as we can, and within 20 working days.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. If we can't sort it out, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
